Annual Corps Training Details

Cadet Code of Conduct
All cadets must read and sign the new Cadet Code of Conduct agreement that is available here. Upon completion of the form you may either hand it into administration or send an electronic copy to kingstonseacadets@gmail.com. A copy will be placed on your training file every year.

Annual Cadet Information Sheet
Each cadet is requested to complete/update their Annual Cadet Information Sheet at the start of the year and in January as part of the interview process with your Divisional Officer.  This helps keep your file up to date for end of year consideration of performance, awards, medals and local recognition. Once completed it should be signed, dated and provided to your Divisional Officer.

Ontario Cadet Co-Op Credit Program High School Credit Program 2020-21
The UCDSB-lead program in which cadets in RCSU Central can obtain high school credits during the training year, will be expanded to include all areas of RCSU Central.
Although the program is lead by UCDSB, cadets do not need to be students of that board to participate. Any Ontario high school student in any school board (English, French, Catholic, or Public) may participate as long as they have already obtained at least one high school credit, or will have one credit by the end of June 2021, and reside in Ontario.

How it works is that cadets, once registered, can obtain up to 4 credits per training year based on the work, participation, and attendance of any cadet activity including mandatory, complementary, and optional training. Virtual training is included. For every 90 hours logged with cadet related activities, one credit can be granted. Credits are tailored to match a cadet's interests and involvement. For example, Phys Ed credits, History credits, and Music credits are all possible, based on what activities the cadet routinely participates. Cadets will also complete the pre-placement assignments and a monthly journal entry.

Weekly Routine Orders

Weekly Routine Orders (WROs) are published four weeks out (for the month) and updated as far in advance as possible. Most current WROs information is posted on the Welcome Page of the Website and the bulletin board outside the office.

WROs include, but are not limited to: the scheduled training specifics each week, any weekend activities and related pre-requisites, duty schedules and other pertinent information that the ship company must act upon. The content is extracted from the yearly schedule, adds details and reflects any changes or additions that need to be communication to Staff, cadets, parents, and Branch personnel since first published.

Forecasted Weekends

Our mandatory training program requires several specific weekends to be planned and executed during the regular training year. These weekends, such as on-water activities, seamanship training, fundraising commitments, competition weekends, citizenship/community service and some good old fun, are scheduled so you can plan vacations, work and sports schedules and homework time. Closer to the date more specific operational details will be published. Weekend activities and other events that take us away from HMCS Cataraqui require a signed Permission Form. The Permission Form is available here, in case the one handed out is lost between cadets and home, or in case you are absent on a local training night. Feel free to fill it in and email it back to 33sea@cadets.gc.ca or hand in to the AdminO by the no later than date noted on the activity details.

Duty Schedule

Duty Schedules For Officers/Staff And Cadets
The Ship's duty schedule outlines the master list of who is on duty, when and what role are they assigned for that day. It should be noted that the WROs use this schedule when planning and publishing for the month. Last minute changes or exchanges will not get updated here.

Cadet Duty Watch
The purpose of a Duty Watch is to ensure that there is coordination and fair distribution of the training support and cleanup tasks that are required each training day/event in addition to formal training/instruction assignments. Each cadet will be assigned to a Duty Watch once the Divisions are determined at the start of each year. Only half of a Division is likely on duty each week. So typically a cadet would be on duty once a month or nine(9) times a year, not including weekend training. The Duty Watch also makes communication of assignments easy and transparent. The schedule also helps parents know which cadets are helping with cleanup so may be a few minutes late for pick up.

It is the responsibility of each Cadet and Officer/Staff to let their Chain of Command e.g., their Divisional Petty Officers, Divisional Officers and Executive Officer know when they cannot make a duty assignment as early as possible. Where ever possible duty personnel should find a replacement or make a shift change and not leave it to others to solve. Don’t wait until the week ahead. Look at the Schedule often to avoid conflicts or missed shifts as the school, work and cadet training year gets busy.

Training Schedule

The yearly training schedule is a living document, plan for it to change and have additional detail as plans flesh out. An initial version of the “Year Ahead” will be available once the training year starts. This calendar will be up to date and WROs will be posted for the current month.  If you have any concerns about training, please contact us, directing your questions to the attention of the Training Officer.

Specific Training details are published in Weekly Routine Orders noted above.

Supporting Activities & Teams - on hold until further notice

To compliment the mandatory training, the additional activities vary each year are based on the combination of interested cadets and the availability of qualified instructors and supervisors. Where possible we join schedules and locations with other cadet corps or squadrons in the area to access qualified instructors to offer the programs and not disappoint cadets.

In addition to Music and Marksmanship many additional activities lead to the selection of a team that goes beyond the Corps and competes with other Corps and Squadrons. For example, orienteering and biathlon. A team may train more often than the general activity schedule.

Which activities and teams that will run each year, their schedules, competition dates and other important details will be published here as soon once confirmed. Coaches and contact information will be made available from the Training Officer.

Permission Slips

Many events, especially those that take cadets away from HMCS Cataraqui for training, community service, competitions or fund raising support require parental consent. We collect this consent using a typical permission slip that parents complete, adding the details and timings of the approved event.  The permission slip must be handed in to the Officer or emailed by the deadlines noted in the WROs.
