If you have any questions or concerns. Please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Good Evening Parents and Cadets,
Lt (NL) Lamontagne, Commanding Officer, and Staff would like to welcome back our cadets and families for 2020/2021 training year and hope that you all have been safe and healthy during the pandemic. For the cadets that are aging out you will be missed. We wish you all the best. For those of you returning, I know there are many questions as the pandemic is still in the forefront. NLCC Cataraqui leadership team has been working together to prepare a fun and interactive program while adhering to our Navy League of Canada Training Directives from both National Office and
Ontario Division.
We are unable to start in-house training until October 1, 2020, at the earliest. In addition to this target date, we will need approval to access our training facilities and have everything put in place with HMCS Cataraqui, with Public Health Guidelines, our Navy League of Canada Training Directives and our Branch preparedness to support us. With all the in- house training requirements that need to be in place, and while HMCS Cataraqui is busy working on a plan for our safe return, we have made an exciting decision to start our training year online. This will give HMCS Cataraqui, our Branch
and us, NLCC Cataraqui leadership team, time to prepare a safe return to in-house training.
New Families:
Welcome, we look forward to getting to know you and your cadet. Due to COVID-19 things are a bit different. However, we are adapting quickly. . We will need to verify your cadet's enrollment information before we can send out the link to join google classrooms, our online training platform.
Once we can-do in-house registration, we will send out the information and make arrangements for enrollments. You will be provided with a parent handbook; giving you details about how the corps normally runs on a Monday evening.
How will the online training will work?
We will be using google classroom.
When?
Two (2) Mondays a month. 1830-2000hrs (6:30 to 8:00p.m, timing will be adjusted as required) you will be provided with a calendar with the dates we will meet and a link to google classroom.
Uniforms?
Each Cadet will be given a Corps t-shirt and ball cap. Cadets that already have a Corps ball cap will not be issued another one. You will receive a communication on how this will take place to make sure every enrolled cadet has both uniform parts for this temporary order of dress.
Training Materials:
NLCC Cataraqui is working on training kits and a monthly calendar, with each activity planned out. Most Items will be provided in order to successfully complete the activity. There will be times that cadets can use what they have around the house. In these cases, cadets will receive this type of helpful instructions.
Examples of Online Training:
Drill movements and drill games such as “Coxswain says:”
Rank BINGO
Semaphore, learning the phonetic alphabet, make your own semaphore flags.
When we be returning to in-house training?
Firstly we need the approval to access our training facilities from HMCS Cataraqui. Then HMCS Cataraqui, our Branch, and NLCC Cataraqui have to implement and adopt all the prescribed safety protocols and more where practical. The final step is to have our work reviewed and then have the risk of returning to in-house training assessed. It is then that we will have further information to share with families to support your decision-making.
Registration: For all Returning and New Recruits
We are waiting for permission, from HMCS Cataraqui to set up a tent outside in the parking lot of HMCS Cataraqui to handout registration packages. You will need to fill out a quick information sheet with contact information, email address, cadet’s name and T-Shirt size. I will confirm a Date and Place October 1, 2020 on Facebook.
We will then meet again the following week to collect your registration packages.
I will handout the Online Training kits, Corps T-Shirt and ball cap (for new cadets), a calendar and materials to participate in the online activities.
In addition to core training material, I will hand out a small token of fun and appreciation from our Branch.
Returning/Exchanging of uniforms
Once I have confirmation and approval to return uniforms. I will send out instructions that you will be required to follow to maintain the safety protocols that are put in place while adhering to public Health and Navy League of Canada Directives.
With COVID-19 and the uncertainty of how this pandemic changes daily, we will do our best to continue with the best interest of all cadets and ensure a safe and fun interactive Navy League Cadet experience in the meantime.
If you have any questions or concerns. Please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Kindest regards,
Lt(NL) Sabrina Lamontagne
