The Navy League Cadets is an organization designed to provide youth ages 9 to 12 years old with the opportunity to gain leadership skills, nautical skills, communication skills and much more. The programme is separate from the Canadian Cadet Organizations. It is solely sponsored by the Navy League of Canada, and it is not supported by the Department of National Defence like the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets. The Navy League Cadet programme is led by civilian volunteers, who are Navy League Officers supervised by local branches of the Navy League of Canada.
The training programme of the Navy League Cadets introduces youth to the training available in the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets and is modified to serve the needs of the younger age group.
Navy League Cadets participate in a wide variety of training, and have the opportunity to learn about nautical topics such as sailing, naval traditions, first aid, communications at sea and fitness. Cadets also participate in precision drill, seamanship, band, citizenship, and lots of fun.
Navy League Cadet training occurs during weekly training nights and scheduled weekend training throughout the cadet year. The training schedule is well balanced to compliment regular training and practical skills development with team training, citizenship, fitness and fun, and competition practices.
Navy League Cadets also have the chance to further their skills and learn new ones during the summer both locally and with other corps in Eastern Ontario area.
Our qualified Navy League Officers and Cadet Instructors train our cadets and allow our young people to meet their potential in a safe, positive environment, letting them make new friends and try new activities while developing confidence and citizenship. All of our instructors complete the National Volunteer Screening requirements and undergo provincial level leadership and subject training.
Effort put into the Navy League program by cadets does not go unnoticed. There are various forms of recognition, including promotions, awards, certificates and medals.
Our regular training program runs from early September to May and closes with an Annual Ceremonial Review (ACR) and on-water fun until the end of June.
We have continuous registration throughout the year - new members are always welcome.
