Looking To Volunteer With Us?

The Navy League Cadet Corps is managed and supervised by adult volunteers who are enrolled as Navy League Cadet Officers or screened Cadet Instructors (CIs). Officers are granted warrants by the League, wear naval pattern uniforms and use naval ranks followed by a Navy League (NL) designator. Navy League Cadet Officers are not members of the Canadian Forces.

All Navy League Cadet Corps volunteers are provided opportunities for development of skills that will undoubtedly benefit you in your career as well.

In this case, these individuals are deemed to be volunteers of the Navy League and, as such, are subject to the Navy League’s governing documents and policies.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR ADULTS

There are several different types of volunteering within the Navy League that provide adults with opportunities to exercise and learn personnel management, a sense of community, and several other skills.

There are two different types of positions for adults to hold at a Navy League Cadet Corps.

NAVY LEAGUE CADET VOLUNTEERS

Navy League Cadet Officers and Cadet Instructors (CI) are not members of the Canadian Forces. Individuals are deemed to be volunteers of the Navy League and, as such, are subject to the Navy League’s governing documents and policies.

In addition to looking for adults willing to donate time, specialty skills ( such as first aid, music or instruction), all Navy League Cadet Corps volunteers are provided opportunities for development of skills that will undoubtedly benefit you in your career as well.

BRANCH VOLUNTEERS

In addition to dedicated volunteers to provide the training and fun, each Navy League Cadet Corps and Sea Cadet Corps has an associated Navy League Branch member assigned to liaise between the Branch and the Corps. The Navy League Cadet Chairperson is responsible for being a key communicator and accessible Branch representative to ensure the Commanding Officer has the support, endorsement and funding required to operate the program and kit out officers and cadets.  They are also there to provide leadership, local training and to ensure compliance with Navy League of Canada and Ontario Division directives.

The Branch is the accountable party for the operations of the Corps.  It arranges a variety of things to support the corps, including fundraising, insurance, volunteer screening and cadet supervision and also cadet instruction, should the need be identified.

There are numerous tasks and responsibilities to be fulfilled by the Branch so that a Sea Cadet and/or Navy League Cadet Corps can exist. Many hands make light work. To manage the overall responsibility of the local branch, there is an organization structure and primary roles to be filled, including president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary and Corps Chairpersons.

VOLUNTEER SCREENING

Adults interested in becoming Cadet Instructors, Navy League Cadet Officers and/or members of the local Branch (Corps’ support committee) must be screened.

Screening is mandatory for all adults who come in contact with cadets as an instructor, supervisor, canteen supporter, a Branch member, and sometimes even a driver. This activity is to protect both the youth we support and you the volunteer. It is important that we demonstrate and display(badges) our due diligence to ensure that only authorized volunteers are directly responsible for the safety and well-being of our cadets.
