Fundraising

The Branch is responsible for leading the annual fundraising activities aimed at raising sufficient funds to support the approved operational/training budgets for NLCC Cataraqui, RCSCC St Lawrence and the Branch's insurance and administrative responsibilities.

Usually the Branch can plan for cadets and officers/Staff to be available to participate in several regular and respectful campaigns poppy drive and tag days noted below.   As part of the planning and brain storming with the Corps' Commanding Officers and Branch members, other activities - one off or annual opportunities- are discussed and agreed to.  They will also be posted here for information.

The average total cost of operations annually is approximately $20,000.  This is our starting target before we look at exceptional training requests, year end trips or special events that do not recur.

Our average annual forecasted revenue is $35,000 based on the recurring activities remaining consistent.

Individual donations - open or directed are always welcomed.  To donate online - go to Donate page; for cheques or cash, contact the President.

Fundscrip Prepaid Card Campaign

Fundscrip prepaid cards are prepared in individual envelopes for mailing or pickup. Real money, full cash value prepaid cards. Please download the package and consider buying a gift card or two or ten. Share the order form, post it on your Facebook page. Every little bit helps us maintain operating money to support our cadet program and invest in the our communities.

Contact Tim Bramham 613-277-1410 info@kingstoncadets.ca  if you have questions. The Branch is here to make this as easy as possible for you.

Poppy Drive - Not for  November 2021

One of the community service commitments for the cadets and Corps' Officers/Staff is to support the local Legions' annual Poppy Drives.  This is usually coordinated in advance so that all Kingston Corps/Sqns  participate fairly in the campaign over several days prior to Remembrance Day.   In return the Legions present a donation to the Branch/Support Committees of each participating Corps/Sqns.

Our local Legions may host other events during the year, whereby cadets may be requested to participate.  With enough lead time to plan and coordinate, the Commanding Officers and Branch President can usually make it work.

Tag Days - No Fall Tag Days for 2021-22 Training Year

Our two (2) Tag Day Weekends are the major fund raising events that require maximum participation from the cadets and the supervision from Officers and parents.   The logistics have been refined to maximize convenience for the cadets and parents and still raise the bulk of the funds required to operate both Corps, the Branch and put a few dollars away for a rainy day.

Tag Day weekends are divided into five(5) shifts - Friday evening, Saturday morning and afternoon and Sunday morning, afternoon (sometimes blended 1000-1400hrs to accommodate schedules).  Cadets/parents sign up for locations starting three weeks ahead of the event.  Distribution of Tag day boxes and presentations happen during the training nights the week ahead of the event.  Accommodation is always possible with notice.  Coordinate special requests through Corps Commanding Officers.    Parents are welcome to suggest locations closer to home, if not on the list. The Branch needs to get approval in advance, so tell us early and tell us often.

Tag Days are coordinated with all the Corps/Sqns in Kingston in order to avoid date collisions within our programme and with other groups within the community who are also trying to raise operating funds.  Therefore it is important that cadets, Staff and parents do their best to protect our weekends.

Fall Tag Days - October weekend following Thanksgiving.

Spring Tag Days - Mother's Day Weekend.

Actual dates, schedules, sign up sheets will be communicated through each of the Corps' Commanding Officer.

Charitable Gaming

Charitable gaming is our second major fund raising activity that usually returns close to 50% of our revenue. The success of this campaign relies on adults playing bingo and or the gaming machine. In addition we are required to  support the Gaming Centre  by being  onsite charity representatives in time blocks of 1-2 hours; each time we are scheduled for an event.  The Gaming Centre Coordinator sends out a schedule twice a year seeking volunteers to cover assigned shifts.  The Branch does request some commitment from the Corps Officers/Staff, when permitted,  in addition to Branch members and parents to ensure our volunteer team size allocation stays full.

Covid public health measures and Cadet program rules to return to training have influenced who can volunteer, mandates masks, social distancing and vaccinations.

Missed shifts cost the Branch income and assigns us a negative performance evaluation. The latter will impact our ability to select our preferred  time slots in the next licensing time block.

Branch representative volunteers must attend/complete a  training session that covers rules and responsibilities and review mandatory AODA material.

Branch team members are provided a golf shirt with a Navy League Crest as our designated uniform.  Many hands make a lighter burden on the team.
